yo...yo..yo

That sound you hear is me running around again this weekend. Even more Slacks have taken Manhattan! My parents, along with my godmother (honorary Slack) arrived on Thursday, and so far we have had an amazing dinner at Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's restaurant), the NBC tour, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN on Broadway, and a walk along 5th Avenue. Right now, I'm "resting" before we head out for dinner at a new French restaurant, and we go and to check out XANADU on Broadway. I am most excited.

More coming soon....

wrapping up

So, my brother has come and gone, and a good time was had by all. We did the Mets game, and we also managed to do two movies, a show, a museum, and walks all over Central Park and midtown.

As PK's (preacher kids), I felt it was imperative that we go and check out ALTAR BOYZ, my all-time favorite off-Broadway show. It is still hilarious, and I encourage everyone to check it out. Super funny, smart, silly, great dancing, sharp lyrics, and cute boys make it for an ideal night out. Plus, this great song "I Believe" is in it...and that is one of my favorite musical theatre songs of all time. I mean how can you not dig a show about a Christian boy band?

On the movie front, we took in IRON MAN....it still totally rocked! We also took in SPEED RACER, which I actually really liked. It does run a little long, but the graphics were amazing, and I liked the actors. It was crazy busy.....like eight million things happening at once, and in fact, I am glad we didn't check it out on the IMAX screen like we had originally planned, because it would have been totally overwhelming. At any rate, I sat back, relaxed, and just had fun with it.
We took in the natural history museum, and did the planetarium where we saw this cool movie called "Cosmic Collisions" narrated by Robert Redford. People, it is not the global warming that is going to get us....it's the giant meteor that could AT ANY TIME drift into our orbit. That thing freaked the crap out of me! I enjoyed, as always, looking at the creepy stuffed animals. We also looked at dinosaur bones.

We toured the bottom half of Central Park which was fun....made our way to the fountain, then wandered down through Times Square, over to Rockefeller Center, down to Bryant Park, and then back through Times Square. My poor feets were so tired!

So, on Monday morning, we got up, and he headed off to the airport to return to his life in Ohio. It was very cool to have him here...and honestly, I can't remember the last time (or if we ever?) spent so much time together just the two of us. Although, we did get some Aunt bonus with our Aunt who ate dinner and hit IRON MAN with us.

Final thoughts: ALTAR BOYZ: hilarious; IRON MAN: check it out!; SPEED RACER: If you like adventure-action stuff, fun to check out on the big screen; walking for eight hours: ouch!

More later...the weekend so far is ALTAR BOYZ, a couple museums, a movie, and food! Should be good fun for the whole family....seriously.

fog

So, two weekends ago, I headed home to celebrate my nephew's second birthday. After boarding my plane, we pulled away from the gate only to have the captain come on over the loudspeaker to say that we were number 45 for departure. So not kidding. Anyway, I pulled out my phone and snapped this photo. If you look through the fog, you can see the city skyline.

hooray for the ugly truth!

As I mentioned a couple posts ago, Gerard Butler is filming a new movie with Katherine Heigl called THE UGLY TRUTH, set to come out next April. (If only it were coming out this summer....sigh.)

it begins

It's here, people, it's here. Summer movie season has begun!! This morning, the roomie, a friend and I went to check out the first big offering, IRON MAN. I am a big superhero movie fan, and this one I went into a little blind, not knowing the comics at all. Let me just say, this was a FANTASTIC way to start off the summer! This movie is funny, compelling, well acted, has an intriguing story, and sews in violence and romance....it was fabulous! Robert Downey, Jr is incredible as IRON MAN. He is interesting, suave, a little dark, and just so good in the part. He is Stark, weapons whiz, party-guy, and headed to give a presentation to the military about a new weapon his company has created. On the way back to the airfield, his convoy is attacked, and he is taken hostage by ruthless terrorists. Forced by them to rebuild a terrifying weapon, instead he builds a suit to get himself out of harm's way. Thus, the IRON MAN is born. Back to civilization he goes, but where does he fit? With a stellar supporting cast of Jeff Bridges, Terrance Howard, and Gwyneth Paltrow, this movie kept me on the edge of my seat. My only wish is that I could go back and see it for the first time again!!

Final thoughts: Hooray for the summer movie season! Big, loud, funny, exciting, IRON MAN is kick-ass movie that hits all the right notes! Plus, bonus that the new DARK KNIGHT trailer plays before it. (Although, it was still super sad to see Heath Ledger.)
